All natural fibers absorb moisture from the atmosphere. In the case of wool, this happens in greater proportion than others. Wool is hygroscopic, absorbing water vapor in a humid atmosphere and losing it in a dry one.
Wool fiber can absorb up to 50% of its weight, while synthetic fabrics retain only 4% before they feel wet. The liquid retained in the cortex of the fiber is evaporated by exposing the garment to air and sun. Merino wool can absorb sweat in a highly effective way. This allows moisture to enter into the interior of the fibers and preventing your body from feeling wet.

Este proceso se conoce como “calor por absorción” el tejido absorbe humedad y retiene calor cuando las temperaturas son frías y húmedas. Por el contrario, cuando hace calor, a través del proceso “refrigeración por evaporación” la lana libera la humedad.
